Linking up with What I Ate Wednesday today, since I got some delicious weekend eats to share, plus a recap of my weekend in Amsterdam.
So, I accompanied one of our athletes who is a CrossFit athlete and coach, but mainly focus on Karate. There was a competition on Sunday in Almere (30minutes from Amsterdam) and we spent three days in the city. A little too relaxed with our timing, we almost missed the flight – just arriving at the gate when the lady was about to call out our names. Some looks of reproach from all the passengers, but oh well, we made it.
Saturday we arrived early, checked in the hotel and later in the afternoon, Radovan met up with his athlete friends and I went for a 4 hours stroll through the city to do some photographing.
Seriously, there is hardly anything which relaxes me more than being in a complete foreign place, totally on my own, without any time pressure and with my camera. It’s pure bliss for me and I felt completely chilled and happy.
I haven’t been drinking a lot the last few weeks – actually hardly anything – and was supertipsy after this ridiculous small bottle. Nothing wrong with walking around on my own with a stupid grin on ma face.
Since I am the creator of clumsiness, I am pleasantly surprised, that I didn’t get lost at all on my 4 hours odyssey through Amsterdam. Especially when being lost in searching for photo themes and staring at joints as big as my head. Don’t worry, I didn’t go on that high.
Later in the evening, I was perfectly knocked out and frozen up til down to my underwear, so the only solution to get on to some food was Take Away. Caesar Salad, Sushi and Movie – nothing to complain here.
Sunday morning we headed off to the sportshall in Almere for the competition. Let’s just say that the drive there was kind of ….interesting? The taxi drivers had no freaking CLUE as to where the hell we want to go (I really don’t get this, it’s quite easy – and we all know that this coming from me, must mean something). I was sitting in the back trying to find an address on the phone, while Radovan was arguing with the turkish taxi driver. His Serbian blood started boiling a little and I was just a tiny bit concerned that I would need to set in my biceps in any case. All was good in the end and we arrived on time….. 🙂
I loved to see this, I have never seen Karate before and I was amazed.
Unfortunately Radovan was out after the first round. It was disappointing, but it wasn’t too much of a surprise – he is actually recovering from being injured since 3,5 months (broken toe and injured medial collateral ligament) and was indeed limited in his training. Nevertheless, it was great to be there and watch the fights and experiencing the atmosphere of such a tournament and seeing him perform.
When getting back to town we celebrated with All you can Eat -Style Sushi. Believe me, I ate Radovan’s weight in Sushi –
he is not by any means a light weight currently. I care to admit that I was in shortage of breath after about 68 plates of Sushi. I don’t even know how my stomach was able to carry all this. I may mention, that the only movement I did that day was running to catch the train when we left the sportshall. I felt full but well, every single of these rolls (balls? hahaha. RHIIIME! ) was worth it.
Monday morning I went for a Interval Cardio Session at the hotel gym and Radovan went out for a run. Fuel was needed, cause well, I may or may not have had enough food the night before (WTF?! WHere did it all go??). A little concerned about our Sushi-Pizza-Galore the night before, we chose a smart breakfast:
We walked around for the rest of the day, enjoying the fabulous weather and another clean lunch. Plus, I had to spend a serious amount of time at a Whole Foods market. I am thinking about moving in to one, one day.
Hilariousness was the mood most of the time during this weekend. My taste.
Not so my taste this absolutely HUMONGOUS pastries?! Well , we stood there for a while, trying to imagine how we would feel after a portion like that and decided it wasn’t for us.
But well, Sushi it was. AGAIN. All you can eat. All out. Breathless. DAMN. So good!! I am almost sure I heard my belly whimpering a little.
3 days without any killer WODS and loads of food but not too much sugar or alcohol resulted in a day full of PR’s at the box. Morning Training with the Coaches I was able to absolve the WOD’s faster than usual, Olympic Lifting 50kg Clean and Jerk (I know it’s not a lot but for me it’s big), and 6×6 straight gymnastics pull ups. A good day.
My enlightement AGAIN: Workout hard, but eat and rest just as. I will try to GLUE this into my brain as I try to do since years. Maybe this time it actually remains there.
Now head over to our hostess and check out more foodspiration!!
Have you ever been to the Netherlands?
Ever seen a Karate fight?
Are you a fan like me of Sushi (and Corona beer?)
