Good morning and welcome to a new round of Wednesday Food Party!! Big probs to Jen for hosting!
So, after a while of being part of the LBC team, which was a GREAT experience, I realized, I don’t need a coach that close anymore. Still, I wanted to have some kind of support, preferably from a person who I know and who knows my tics and quirks – who better than my lovely Laura who I miss so desperately. Now she is forced to get in touch with me once in a while. Hehehee.
She does a great job, no surprise here. I just love her advice – quick, on point and right what I need to hear (but not always want to, ahem, coughcough).
Anyway, Laura is like me. After all, we became sisters when she lived with me here in Basel and there are some simple things we want in life: chocolate, booze and sex, but also guns and a lean figure (We’re girls, we want EVERYTHING). SO – she knows how to and I do what I am told – at least almost 🙂 We go with IIFYM (If It Fit Your Macros) and even if it might not be for everyone, it is extremely convenient for me. I eat clean most of the time anyway, but this way I have a kind of a flexibility and I don’t feel like I have to restrict on all the sweet treats I love. Up until my vacation I tracked my food online to have a little control – my struggle is to get all those carbs in, so this way I see what I want to work on. The fats clearly aren’t the problem to get in. Eating fats is NEVER a problem until it gets out of hand and it becomes a problem. Get it?
Anyway, on vacation I just went with the flow and now in December with all the get-togethers and baked goods and spiced wine, I don’t track. It doesn’t mean, I stuff my face with sugar from am to pm, but I definitely relax when it comes to those events. I plan my food around the ‘cheat-meals’, I train like I always do, I drink immensely amounts of water and when I enjoy meals out, I ENJOY.
I can’t deny that some guilt is creeping in here and there and my body is definitely screaming for more sugar lately than it usually does. But I try to go with it and just keep it as moderate as possible. December is once a year, it is one of my favorite months and it is the time when I meet so many of my loved ones in warm and cosy living rooms with laughters, food and wine – I just want to soak it up and savor each moment of this precious time. January is here sooner than we know and I will have enough time and energy to be a little more on track. And Laura needs to start cutting for her competition, so we can cheer each other on 🙂
Laura: Believe me, it is ok I told everybody here and now. Don’t feel pressured, don’t.
So. I make sure I start my day with a healthy breakfast, most of the time after a quick easy run or some sprints outdoors, 25-30min fresh air blast and then a warm, clean bowl of food. It’s a good start. Even though it looks like the grossest food that ever graced the planet. It’s good.
Or, sometimes even Quark Pancakes.
I bring my homemade lunch to the office, OR I eat at home, OR I eat at a saladbar with a friend. Here’s a saladbowl from Dean&David as big as TWO of my heads with grilled shrimp, parmigiano cheese, artichokes, cucumber and an egg. Sourdough bread on the side.
Migros Gourmessa makes the best christmas cookies in my opinion. I have no choice but to buy some sometimes. And eat them all. Addicted.
Postworkout and Dinner depends – it is either my go to dinner at home – grilled white fish with veggies and a little avocado or a carb. Or a salad at the box which we get from David’s Fitness Food. Or this time of the year something at an event. As always, I try to keep it as lean and clean as possible, but I don’t make a fuss over it. And yes, after weeks of being almost completely abstinent, December is the booze month. It’s an official fact. Roll with it.
After all, I have to practise for the 31st – after many many years without him, I celebrate New Year’s Eve with my bro and his wife and her bro in the mountains at their place. It’s going to be out of this world fun. Brother and me are the party inventors, secretly. Just so you know.
What’s your ‘strategy’ for the Sugar-and-Booze month? Focus on the fun and love, just like me, please?
What do you bring when you have to provide dessert?
Do you drink alcohol? (not sure if I want you to answer that).
