Good morning and welcome to a new round of Wednesday Food Party!! Big probs to Jen for hosting!

wiaw what i ate wednesday button happy healthy holidaysI have no clue when the last time was since I updated you on my ‘diet’ routine and how things are going, what I’m following, IF so and well, food in general – we love to talk about food, yes? Yes.

So, after a while of being part of the LBC team, which was a GREAT experience, I realized, I don’t need a coach that close anymore. Still, I wanted to have some kind of support, preferably from a person who I know and who knows my tics and quirks – who better than my lovely Laura who I miss so desperately. Now she is forced to get in touch with me once in a while. Hehehee.

She does a great job, no surprise here. I just love her advice – quick, on point and right what I need to hear (but not always want to, ahem, coughcough).

Crossfit Anyway, Laura is like me. After all, we became sisters when she lived with me here in Basel and there are some simple things we want in life: chocolate, booze and sex, but also guns and a lean figure (We’re girls, we want EVERYTHING). SO – she knows how to and I do what I am told – at least almost🙂 We go with IIFYM (If It Fit Your Macros) and even if it might not be for everyone, it is extremely convenient for me. I eat clean most of the time anyway, but this way I have a kind of a  flexibility and I don’t feel like I have to restrict on all the sweet treats I love. Up until my vacation I tracked my food online to have a little control – my struggle is to get all those carbs in, so this way I see what I want to work on. The fats clearly aren’t the problem to get in. Eating fats is NEVER a problem until it gets out of hand and it becomes a problem. Get it?

I know. Her legs look like penises. Don't pretend you didn't have a phallic thought.

Oh, hello penis legs. Don’t pretend you didn’t have a phallic thought.

Anyway, on vacation I just went with the flow and now in December with all the get-togethers and baked goods and spiced wine, I don’t track. It doesn’t mean, I stuff my face with sugar from am to pm, but I definitely relax when it comes to those events. I plan my food around the ‘cheat-meals’, I train like I always do, I drink immensely amounts of water and when I enjoy meals out, I ENJOY.

BenaI can’t deny that some guilt is creeping in here and there and my body is definitely screaming for more sugar lately than it usually does. But I try to go with it and just keep it as moderate as possible. December is once a year, it is one of my favorite months and it is the time when I meet so many of my loved ones in warm and cosy living rooms with laughters, food and wine – I just want to soak it up and savor each moment of this precious time. January is here sooner than we know and I will have enough time and energy to be a little more on track. And Laura needs to start cutting for her competition, so we can cheer each other on🙂

Laura: Believe me, it is ok I told everybody here and now. Don’t feel pressured, don’t.

ChocolateSo. I make sure I start my day with a healthy breakfast, most of the time after a quick easy run or some sprints outdoors, 25-30min fresh air blast and then a warm, clean bowl of food. It’s a good start. Even though it looks like the grossest food that ever graced the planet. It’s good.

Or, sometimes even Quark Pancakes.

PancakesI bring my homemade lunch to the office, OR I eat at home, OR I eat at a saladbar with a friend. Here’s a saladbowl from Dean&David as big as TWO of my heads with grilled shrimp, parmigiano cheese, artichokes, cucumber and an egg. Sourdough bread on the side.

Migros Gourmessa makes the best christmas cookies in my opinion. I have no choice but to buy some sometimes. And eat them all. Addicted.

CookiesMy trainings at the box become later and later in the day and when I go there directly from the office, I need some portable preworkout food. Questbars, Shakes, Quinoabowls.

Bena QuinoaPostworkout and Dinner depends – it is either my go to dinner at home – grilled white fish with veggies and a little avocado or a carb. Or a salad at the box which we get from David’s Fitness Food. Or this time of the year something at an event. As always, I try to keep it as lean and clean as possible, but I don’t make a fuss over it. And yes, after weeks of being almost completely abstinent, December is the booze month. It’s an official fact. Roll with it.

SnackAfter all, I have to practise for the 31st – after many many years without him, I celebrate New Year’s Eve with my bro and his wife and her bro in the mountains at their place. It’s going to be out of this world fun. Brother and me are the party inventors, secretly. Just so you know.

What’s your ‘strategy’ for the Sugar-and-Booze month? Focus on the fun and love, just like me, please?

What do you bring when you have to provide dessert?

Do you drink alcohol? (not sure if I want you to answer that).

I’m not sure how you make porridge looking meals sound good, but somehow you do! It’s quite impressive. I love that you don’t put restrictions on yourself and enjoy the Holiday season. I, for one, can’t always pass on Xmas cookies and fudge. Everything in moderation.🙂

  2. Delicious eats as always, love :)! I love your approach towards the holidays and it’s similar to mine- there’s so much more to this season than just “eating clean”. As much as I love food in general, being with friends & family members is more special to me. Good call on working with Laura to help you achieve your goals- no messing around with her…and thank goodness she loves her booze!

  3. This is so interesting! I’ve seen so much about IIFYM and whilst I’d probably do it paleo style (ie basically count my macros to monitor them) I always have thought it’d lead to me getting obsessive… Do you find this at all?
Hell yes to enjoying December😉 I just try and make sure the treats are ‘worth it’

  4. My strategy this month is not to have a strategy. In general though, I enjoy the occasional sweet treat. I also turn down the occasional sweet treat, especially when they’re store bought. Homemade I splurge on. I also try to make sure I get in lots and lots of nutrient dense food, mainly because this time of year is stressful for me at work, and I want to bring my A game so I don’t get sick. Stress is a son of a bitch.
Basically, all good things in moderation. It’s all about balance for me.

Lucie i’m just like you in this manner – i totally LOVE LOVE LOVE december month!!!! and november🙂 i love this time of year for some ridiculous reason, i mean it’s not like i’ve had the best times when i was younger, but for some reason this one of my favorite times of year. i love the cold and the feeling of ending a year and starting another. it’s a great time of celebrations, family, and friends. i just love it! and yes to all the food and all the booze. well, ok i still go to work and have a job but i feel so festive that i just want to celebrate more than usual. this still means i don’t party much during the week, but on the weekends i’m just all about a glass of something bubbly and some divine, glorious food to enjoy and savor.
when i have to bring a dessert, i might bring a pumpkin cake and for extra healthy, a raw vegan pecan pie. honestly, i think the pecan pie tastes so much better than everything else. it’s that good!!!! and no baking required so double bonus🙂
i’ve never had a food coach but i did have a sponsor when i was first starting my recovery, this helped me get through the initial freakout weeks. these days i just have to make sure i have breakfast – i found if i miss breakfast, i’m suffering later and not feeling so good. my body has a lot of recovering to do and breakfast is important😉
    xoxoxo happy days Lucie!!

    • Oh we are similar Danielle! I feel so festive during December too.
Raw Pecan Pie?? Omg that sounds heavenly!!
Good on you on the breakfast – a healthy start into the day is so important!

  6. We are going to be so hot in January… wait… we already ARE HOT!😉 It’s not exactly IIFYM… you do not have permission to eat crap!😛 But yeah, being more flexible is so much easier (and fun) and eating asparagus every meal.

Was totally think that gingerbread thing had a penis leg…

  7. I’m not sure I really have a strategy when it comes to the holiday months… but then again, my allergies kind of make me have to pass on a lot of food anyways, so I’m not sure how I’d get by if I was given free reign and COULD actually eat ALL the foods. That being said, since I can’t eat dessert a lot of the time, I end up volunteering to bring it to parties. Cookies, cupcakes, and cake ALL the way. And always with chocolate🙂

  8. great healthy meals!! I NEED to make those quark pancakes!! I LOVE quark :))

  9. I agree with you that December should be more about focusing on relationships and festivities than on being strict about diet. Meditating, journaling, and exercise help me a lot with cravings and such, too. They keep my mind focused and balanced!

  10. I’m happy to hear IIFYM is working well – I can totally see the benefits of this for people who generally care about nutrition already – for you and yesss to a relaxed view on food. I’ve felt more lenient around those extras here and there, too. It helps that I snagged quite a few bars of Lindt at a good price right now.
And I figure that means you’ll get to spend New Year’s with one of the most adorable puppies, too, right? (:

  11. Emily Hawkes says:

Yay for being relaxed food-wise around Christmas🙂 But, hey, what am I going to do when the gym is closed??? But yay to new trainers (of the footwear kind) in the January sales🙂 xx
