How I got my sugar fix on – and pondering about life’s lessons.

5. November 2014 by swissfitchick

There’s no Halloween in Switzerland. This means, past weekend I somehow had to get my sugar coma fix. Not that hard when you have the fun fair in town. Welcome to WIAW.

A big thank you to our hostess Jen from Peas and Crayons!!

A big thank you to our hostess Jen from Peas and Crayons!!

I started with the sweet, cause it’s my quote. Cotton Candy for the win. I don’t care if you think I am too old for that. There’s no such argument.

ZUckerwatteThen I had the nightmare of a choice.

MΓ€ss All that freakin’ SUGAAAAA!!!!

Ok, I went with cheese first. Always go with cheese when in doubt. And some spinach for decoration.

QuicheAnd a second dessert. Cause dessert is everything. ‘Beggeschmutz’ (Baker’s Kiss) and ‘Biberli’ – kind of a gingerbread with marzipan filling, a Swiss speciality. All at once. Ouuhhhh yeah.

Beggeschmutz Lucie The Baker’s Kiss is just chocolate covered with grated coconut and filled with whipped eggwhite and sugar. I eat this since I am a little kid every year and I can NOT get enough of it – although it makes me feel sick. I don’t care. I keep it up. And I will go back this weekend. Seems legit.

So, this was my lunch at 4:30pm. Cause I had breakfast at 11:30 am. And I had my veggies too that day, so don’t you worry. Veggie-Egg-Microwave Bake and Cacao Quark in the morning after my run…..

….and a salad with smoked trout and cucumber for dinner. At 9pm. What…… shouldn’t eat after 8pm? I don’t live by rules like that anymore for freak’s sake.

Talking about salads. My Bestie took me out for lunch yesterday to a new discovered salad bar near my and her office and I never saw a bigger salad bowl in my damn LIFE. It was so good (lettuce, grilled beef steak, corn, cucumber, cherry tomatoes and parmesan cheese) and cause I was close to chewing parts of my body off, I also stocked up on piles of bread. #Ithriveoncarbs

SaladBesides the good food in my life, other things happen: my friend Christian who is regularly featured on here started the bobsled season successfully on the weekend. He sent me all these cute pics plus tons of pics of his blue spots and bruises. Not that I was asking for it, but you know men. They are so proud of their scars.

Check out the middle pic – see the logo on the sled? CROSSFIT BASEL!!! Yup. We are sponsors. So so so so soooooo cool.

AND, I received my new object lens for my cam! OMG I am SO excited. The difference in the pics is outstanding and even though I have no clue what I’m doing, I love it. Considering that the ‘Are you Tough Enough?’ Challenge at CrossFit is approaching fast, it’s the perfect timing to be fully equipped.

CamOther than that, life is a little rough at the moment – my future seems a little blurry (as I come to think of it, I guess that’s normal – or does anyone of you know what happens tomorrow…?) and it makes me kind of wiggling on my feet. It’s been a crazy year of changes so far and it continues to go so – I care to admit that by now I know that life is unpredictable. You can now stop teaching me that, Mr. and Mrs. Destiny, k, thanks. I definitely miss some security and warmth these days and I hope christmas season doesn’t get the blues out of me. Hence guys, I am very well aware that I am a stupid whiner lately, but I keep it real here and life IS testing me on all sides 2014 – on the good and the bad times. And you know me. As long as you don’t struck me a blow with a baseball bat, I keep standing and smiling and giving me a Self Five.

High FiveLucie

And getting all corny about the beautiful red sky on my morning sprints! Seriously, this was like, ‘oh, look at that beautiful….oh damn, hold on sunrise – WHERE the fuck’s my PHONE???’

Happy Wednesday lovely faces!

What is your go to dessert on a fun fair? Chocolate Fruits? Cotton Candy?

Do you think making eggs in the microwave is horrible of me?

Do you think men with scars are sexy?

  1. Salads are meant to be HUGE! When I get a bruise or scar…or any battle wound, I think it is the coolest thing! Haha, I love to show it off, I feel badass!

  2. Chris says:

Wow. I think I got a sugar high just from reading and looking at your photos! I actually try to not injure myself so I don’t have many scars and wounds, but I will sometimes pick at my CrossFit hand callouses where other people can see them… so they know I’ve been doing manly things like lifting barbells and stuff. =)

  3. at a fun fair, I think I usually go for ice cream! Can’t go wrong with a classic…although anything with chocolate doesn’t hurt! That Baker’s Kiss – ya, I’d eat that. As for the life is unpredictable thing – don’t I know it. But we’ll both survive!

  4. I would like 5 of those Baker’s Kisses- er YUM! 2014 seems to be quite a rough here but for a lot of people it seems…fortunately it’s on its way out! 2015 can only get better so hold on tight & enjoy the ride :)!

  5. OMG! I am in a sugar coma right now!! Please take me with you! πŸ˜‰ I cook my eggs in the microwave every morning, I am just too sleepy and that works for me! The bigger the salads, the better right? I think scars are sexy, especially on Christian…Ha!

  6. Emily Hawkes says:

I’m usually proud of my bumps and bruises – I’d tell anyone who would listen about my swollen finger I got when decorating πŸ™‚
I don’t go the the funfair really – we definitely don’t have amazing food like that – usually just greasy burgers and hot dogs – eurgh 😦

  7. I need a bakers kiss…and all those sweet treats. I love cotton candy and had a fizzy flavoured one once- that sucked camels.

  8. Haha that bruise pic makes me think of my husband and I proudly showing off our CrossFit bruises!
Damn I could not pass up that gingerbread with marzipan filling it looks so good! Must try making paleo gingerbread, I do miss that especially at Christmas!

  9. Lisa says:

You know what’s kind of odd, I don’t even think I’ve ever been to a fun fair! How boring is that. I’m trying to think back to my childhood but can’t think of a time I’ve been to one. Sad.
Well, as I’m sitting with a cast on my foot, I’m not too proud of this injury haha. It’s a little sad how it happened so that’s probably why;)

    • You should come here and I take you to the fun fair, it’s really nice – especially at night with all the lights.
Oh well, I am normally not proud of my injuries either, cause usually they happen out of my clumsiness πŸ™‚

  10. Hellloo to all the roasted chestnuts and candied almonds [gebrannte Mandeln] on upcoming Christmas Markets for me. Honestly, though, I can’t remember the last time I had cotton candy and now that you mentioned it I’m feeling a craving coming up.
Haha, men -need- to show their bruises. Even if they’re none to be proud of like in your friend’s case but the household accident kind. No need to tell the origin there, right?! (:
Hugs and HIGH five to you. Keep showing life who’s boss, girl.

  11. I wanna go bobsledding and eat Baker’s Kisses!!! Why did we not have those?! I’ll just have to come back.

I was just going to text you about ho the diet was going. I think I’ll wait a couple of days… xo

  12. Sam @ PancakeWarriors says:

Love the bakers kiss – looks so good! Funnel cakes with lots of powdered sugar and caramel apples come to mind when I think of the fair. Now I’m hungry!

I have a scar on my stomach from when my large intestine was taken out. When men see it…. I tell them I was stabbed, AH HA HA HA AH! And they believe it! πŸ˜‰

EGGS in the MICROWAVE – not bad for you, but hot damn the smell! I used to do this in boarding school…. And my roommates wanted to MURDER ME! LOL!

    • Haha! I want a scar too. I only have a small one on my thumb when I almost cut it off as a kid. Sounds pretty scary and impressive, as I come to think of it, I should show this off more often!
And yes, they stink. That’s probably why I live in a single apartment πŸ™‚

  14. Kay Bueno says:

Oh man. I would trade halloween for sweets from Switzerland. All your food looks so good.

Also, love a man with a scar or two. Life’s too short to play it too safe. πŸ™‚

  15. Jessie says:

Let it out girl – whineee all you want. Besides it’s your blog & you can do what you want. Everyone goes through trials throughout their life. It’s what you handle them & the outcome that says it all. Keep trucking along & following your dreams.

  16. cottercrunch says:

sugar coma right here. haha, but so worth it, i’m sure! and love the crossfit logo, looks awesome! p.s. i’m glad i’m not the only one that sometimes eats dinner after 9pm! haha breaking rules

  17. danielle says:

i love scars, i have SOOOO many so anyone else that can share them i can appreciate πŸ™‚ accept when a guy feels threatened because my scars are bigger/cooler than his, then i think what a pussy/dumbass! lol sorry now i’m venting – this one guy from the past, total insecure idiot.
sugar – love it! i hosted a small dinner party and asked everyone to please bring a sweet… YeaHHHHHHHH!!! there was a feast of cheese, cheesecakes, chocolates, and biscotti… omg girl, so fun. and of course bubbly and wine, divine! πŸ™‚
the craziest sweet treat i tried was at this local musical festival – they were selling deep fried oreo cookies and deep fried chocolate bars… WHAT??? omg couldn’t believe it. one bite of each were enough, still not sure how i feel about deep fried cookies. wicked shit, lol.
sending you happy thoughts and hugs across the cold windy ocean! xox

    • FRIED COOKIES?? I want that. I am not sure about fried chocolate bars, but I would totally go for a fried oreo cookie! Hello sick stomach, lol!
Pussy guys should stay home and not getting on our nerves. Seriously πŸ™‚
