Healthy Chocolate Almond Spread

Healthy Nutella!

I can’t call it Nutella of course. But yes, it tastes like it – scratch that, it tastes better. Especially because it contains the Superfood Cacao in it’s raw form, healthy fats and protein from the almonds and some stevia to add a sweet touch. Not too much though – the soft bitter taste from the cacao is like eating melted dark chocolate.

Are you drooling yet? Whipe that keyboard. Tks.

For the last 2 days I ate it straight out of the jar. But I swear, I plan to top my pancakes with it, smother it on ricecakes, dip it with appleslices, drizzle over my oatmeal or my homemade apple pie or….well, spoon it up from the jar.

Healthy Chocolate Almond Spread

400g (2 cups) ground almonds

4 tbsp raw cacao powder

4 tsp steviapowder or sweetener of your choice

I used my Ninja Ultima Blender to make it. You might have to adjust times and intervals if you use a different blender.

Mix almonds, cacao and stevia in a large bowl.

Put it all into the blender and start blending. The first 5-6 times stop the blender after about 30 seconds and scratch down the mixture from the sides.

The softer the mixture gets, the more you can lengthen the intervals.

When it gets ‘buttery’ you can blend for 2-3 minutes in a row. My blender smoldered as scary as it gets, but all was good.

Blend until it reached your preferred consistency.

Nutella Nutella

Little tip: close doors and windows. I am not sure if my neighbours think that some kind of earthquake occured in my kitchen. Besides that, they probably hate me now.

I take it – I love this stuff too much to stop!

You can use this recipe for any other nutbutter combo. I made Coconut-Almond-Hazelnut, pure Coconut and Raw Almond Butter. Note that the almonds take significantly longer to blend than coconut.

  1. Unfortunately I can’t make it because it wouldn’t last 24 hours…

  2. My face…this is on!! SO excited you posed this recipe, Lucie- thank you! As much as I love almond butter, I am tempted to try making this with hazelnuts instead of almonds for an even more Nutella-like flavor!

  4. SO I think you need to sell your nut butters at your farmers market, they look AMAZING, like my mouth is watering right now πŸ˜‰ xo C

Almond butter all the way. My favorite way to eat it is piled on a lightly toasted English muffin.

  6. You are a nut butter making machine. I love it, and I think you need a taste tester. Good thing I’m available. πŸ™‚

    • Yes, come round!! We taste test all the butters and then hang on my balcony with wine and cheese. Or should we do it the other way round? Whatever. Go and catch that plane.

  7. Omg Lucie! This looks so insanely creamy… like… I can’t even cope. You know I’m all over the almond butter, but I’ve NEVER had it with chocolate because it’s never been allergy-friendly for me. You may have just inspired me to finally bust out the blender and make some myself. Hopefully nothing catches on fire…

  8. This looks SO good. I made Mocha Hazelnut Butter a few weeks back and I wanted to cry when it was done. Looks like I’ll be busting out the food processor again! You’ve totally inspired me. A little Swiss Bday nut butter celebrations LOL

  9. I want to roll around naked in this. Yes, still going through the dry spell…

Great recipe! Did you know that in Ecuador, the amazon nut (uhrwaldnuss) grows in the understory of the arriba national cacao pods. And that is really cool to make nut butter from as well — because you can make a vertical eco system recipe. e.g. the nut and cacao from the same terroir (and vintage) and experience a taste from the whole rainforest. It makes me smile anyways :-). You can ask your favourite chocolate maker (or of course I can help you.) Cheers!

I’m surprised it didn’t just grind up the almonds. When I tried the same thing with macadamia nuts, it only made it grounded but not spread-like. Any tips?

If you encounter those feelings, you can't work around your own vulnerability.

But: there is one emotion that is stronger than fear, and that is forgiveness. For power is never simply a possession but an exercise; power is about how we understand ourselves.
