Vanilla Cherry Protein Smoothie

22. July 2014 by swissfitchick

YES! Time for a recipe!! I know. WHO AM I?? I don’t even want to count the weeks since I created my last recipe.

But hey, today is the day!! As per request of Mr. Aussie, I made a summer smoothie which is perfect to enjoy postworkout – it’s a nice combo of protein and carbs. AND it includes my current favorite fruit – CHERRIES! They are SO delicious at the moment and I absolutely LOVE to pair them with vanilla and chocolate flavour.

I used 2 great brands in the recipe. For the vanilla flavour I went with Growing Naturals Protein Powder – a Rice Protein which is my favorite vegan protein powder. For a slight sweetness and chocolate touch, I used the Cacao Syrup from NuNaturals – they were so nice to send me the syrup to taste and let me tell you, I LOVE it. There may or may not be a GIVEAWAY soon, so stay tuned!!

I don’t know about you, but I love to ‘eat’ my smoothies with a spoon – so the thicker, the better. Oats and Xanthan Gum are the secrets here. PLUS I added a Superfood Bonus: MACA POWDER!

Vanilla Cherry Protein Smoothie
(vegan, glutenfree, fat free – ideal for postworkout)

125g cherries, pitted (about 1 cup)

1 heaped scoop vanilla protein powder

40g glutenfree oats (1/2 cup)

1/2 tsp xanthan gum

1 tsp maca powder

1 tbsp NuNaturals Cacao Syrup

1 tsp each: ground vanilla, ground cinnamon

3dl water (10 oz)

Pour the water in the blender first.

Add all remaining ingredients

Fill in the blank: Cherries and……

Vanilla or Chocolate?

What was your last smoothie combo?

Looks yummy! I’ll have to try it 🙂

  2. Yum- love the gorgeous shade of pink too :)! I am more of a vanilla girl, especially with protein powder & ice cream! I re-discovered xanthan gum (i.e. found some in my pantry) the other day and forgot how amazingly it works to thicken up smoothies…definitely a key ingredient!

  3. 1. Your epic photos.
    2. One day I’m an emu, then a twerker and now mr.aussie. I wonder what will be next.
    3. I will be making this the day I move… my blender is all packed up!
    4. Cherries and cake….black forrest cake!

Cherries and cocktails.. specifically those yummy amarena cherries. OMG I can eat the whole jar! And my fav smoothie combo at the moment is banana, raspberry and vanilla whey protein: It thickens up more and becomes HUGE – much different than with my vegan protein powder (vital protein). Also preferred with a spoon 🙂

  5. YYUMMM! I am obsessed with cherries too, like not kidding I pay top dollar here in BKK just for them! Cannot wait to try this ❤

  6. Wait… what?!? Cacao syrup?! That sounds freaking amazinggggg. I’m a huge chocolate lover, but unless we’re talking pure bars or chips, I usually go with vanilla because I find chocolate flavoured things not chocolatey enough for me… if that makes sense. And I’m pretty sure my last smoothie combo was some kind of banana and almond butter one…

  7. I’ve been making a chocolate cherry smoothie a ton lately but you’ve inspired me to change it up with some vanilla!!! YUMMY!

  8. smoothies definitely need to be thick enough to eat with a spoon! 😉 Looks awesome love! I usually do chocolate and cherry, but going for vanilla would be fabulous.

  9. I love a good cherry shake. I make and cherry-ginger one with vanilla protein. I demo’d it at my gym… people thought it had chocolate but I didn’t add a drop! I guess it was the cherry-vanilla combo? Either way, now I want chocolate.

P.S. Your new place has great lighting! 😉

  10. This looks absolutely delicious! I’m missing my protein shakes this week, might have to make this next week!

  11. This sounds awesome! I have loads of cherries to use up, so I am definitely going to make this. Yum!

No filter. And no one ever tells me again bullshit like that CrossFit makes me look like a man. Left side, 1998 (19y), ~60kg, in an abusive relationship, fueled by a daily dangerous skinny drug cocktail which almost killed me and hours of cardio, no lifting and an oh so fucked up mindset. Right side, 19 years later today (39y), ~68kg (~8kg gainzzz!!). Recovered from 20 years of extreme disordered eating and drugs; and passionate about CrossFit. A healthy mind (pretty much at least 😏😉), a healthy body, freedom and a joy of life I had never experienced before. To be alive and healthy is a fucking miracle. I've always been a stubborn kid and I never half-assed things - contrary, I went and still go full-ass with everything I did and do - which also led me to extreme addictions. But it also allowed me to fight through suicidal thoughts and hurdles. Yet, if you want to overcome something so incredibly strong and stubborn like an Eating Disorder you have to be stronger and more stubborn and to want it with all your heart and to give everything you got. If you are willing to let go in favour of your health, then get your shit together, you can do it. It's possible, I'm the living proof. Trust your strength and never stop believing. And for fucks sake, no one ever goes trying to make me feel embarrassed about my muscles again. I'm not. I'm perfectly ok, just like everyone else. #nojudging #crossfit @crossfit #fightforit #muscles #health #trusttheprocess #believe #eatingdisorderrecovery #awareness #support #loveyourself #bodyimage #fullass #getshitdone #loveyourbody #recovery #addictivepersonality #drugs #overcoming #bulímia #anorexìa
