Friday Favorites – Reader’s Feedback, Comfort Food and Fit Friends!!

22. November 2013 by swissfitchick

Hey guys!

I am so sorry I just disappeared this week. I just didn’t feel well and had to take off some time – nothing to worry about, no relapses, all fine – and I am on my way back to good! Thank you for all your good wishes and sweet comments, they definitely helped a ton!!

So let’s see what favorite things happened lately!!

One of the most touching things happening lately was a visit of one of my readers at my office in Basel. The girl is 21 and from Brazil, but studies in Basel. She contacted me via email and asked me if we could talk. Let’s be honest, emails from readers who tell you that you inspire them or help them to find a way to be happier is an amazing feeling. Of course I was willing to meet her.

I have to admit, that I felt very sorry and sad for her when I saw her. This girl is beautiful and smart, but obviously very sick physically. We went for a little walk and she told me that my blog kind of saved her life. She follows me on my journey of recovery and realizes, that there IS a way out of anorexia and it IS possible to be happy and healthy again.

In the past few weeks, we chatted per email and she is willing to make steps forward in her recovery, slowly but surely. I am so glad and happy to see that she is getting professional help – I gave her support to find people she can talk to in Basel. Even though she seems to be very deep in her Eating Disorder, it is obvious that she is aware what’s going on and that she needs to gain weight and heal her mind and body.

For me, this encounter showed me again why I blog. Not only is this kind of expression a huge help for my own recovery, but I am beyond happy when my blog has a good influence to people who are also struggling with Eating Disorders. As long as I can reach people like this, every day of blogging is so worth it.

Soooo…on to some FOOD. While I was lying (laying??) around at home and had no energy to cook up fancy meals, I STILL made sure I had some of my favorite stuff around, like….

IMG_1202Paired with a Flaxseed-Eggwhite Omelett – #strangebitgood, yeah GOOD! I can not believe that my addiction is still going so strong. I think my body has to make up all the years when I had no idea about what kabocha actually is!! Sorry belly!

Lunch was a Yogurtmess with warmed up berries. Talk about no cooking food mood.

IMG_1204 1Thank GOD I had some leftover Pumpkin Bread and Chilli from Heather’s recipes I copied last weekend. Life saver.

Even better dunken in homemade chocolate coconut almond butter, right??

I know guys, I know….I need a manicure. Desperately.

IMG_2258Another highlight? On the technology front now. I got this baby here. My old business phone was hanging on dear life and after swearing around like it’s my job for several weks now, my boss decided to end this misery and ordered me the golden one. Wicked.

IMG_1201I also managed to get some workout dates in! I normally workout on my own, since very few people like to meet me at 6am to WORKOUT. Except my english friend, Gaynor. Every time she needs a little kick ass, she calls me and we meet at 6am for an outdoor run. Good times.

IMG_5562Another friend of mine, Cécile owns a little gym on the countryside of Basel. It opened just recently and it’s a monthly date now there – SO COOL. When we’re lucky, we are on our own, which means blasting beats as loud as possible and having a whole gym playground just for the 2 of us. Postworkout shower and then sitting down in her little office for dinner and a long girfriendschat. Perfection.

I made some very positive changes in my exercise addiction and I am in a much better place now – can’t wait to share this with you!!

If all goes well – means if I feel good by tomorrow morning – I will spend my weekend with the girlscrew in the mountains!! One of the girls’ parents own a house there with fireplace and everything and it just snowed down a whole lot – perfect. Cross fingers I am fit enough to join, I can not WAIT! Girlfriends Crazytrip here I come!!

Happy Weekend friends!!

What food do you crave when you feel unwell/sick?

Do you like to workout with a friend or a group, or do you prefer to do your thing on your own?

What is a highlight of the upcoming weekend or from this week??

  1. What a touching story about you and your reader, Lucie! Being able to reach out and help people is one of my favourite aspects of blogging as well — you never know how many people you may be helping by sharing your story, and that’s truly an amazing thing 🙂 And speaking of amazing — kabocha and chocolate — ooooomigosh. My addiction to both of those is seriously out of control right now, and I can’t seem to get enough… not that I’m complaining 😉

Hope you’re feeling better enough to head up to the mountains! That sounds so cozy.

    • I agree with Amanda. So special that you have made such an incredible impact. You should be so proud of yourself for putting yourself out there and creating positivity in the lives of others’. These are the kind of stories I love about blogging. 🙂

Side note- do you just sprinkle your flaxseed into the eggs as it cooks? Interesting! I would have never thought to try it.

    • We should have a snowboard-iceskating-kabocha-chocolate meet up!! So much fabulous stuff we both obsessing over 😄😄

Ha! I feel the same way about kabocha…even though I’ve known about it for a few years now, I STILL have to make up for all those years before! Lol! I still can’t believe I let myself go without it nearly half the year this year!

Glad to hear that my food nursed you back to health! 😉 But seriously, I hope you’re feeling back to 100% today so you can have a good time with your girlfriends! I’m excited for the weekend because the man-friend and I are going to see my parents on Saturday. Yep, my dad SPECIFICALLY asked me to bring him along! Aww, makes me happy! 🙂

I usually work out alone, but I really like being in a group setting…it’s so motivating!

    • Awww that’s so cool that your parents are going to meet the man friend!! I wish him luck with Broccoli Ma&Pa!! 🙂
I hope you’ll get some kabocha in this weekend too 🙂

Tee hee about the manicure! I always feel the same when I see mine in a pic 😉 I actually really miss working out with people now I do home workouts, but last week I started a jiu jitsu class so fingers crossed I’ll be making some workout buddies again soon!

    Bon weekend! 🙂

Such a great story, and a shining example of how blogs can inspire and help. They absolutely helped me look at a lot of issues and really evaluate them, and I’m better for it 🙂 It’s a beautiful community of support. Such a great story (with fab food) 🙂

  5. You are an inspiration Lucie and I hope you are feeling much better! Good to see the nut butter being put to good use! When I’m sick, I crave apples. How weird is that?!

  6. cottercrunch says:

what a great story! you are an inspiration! i wish we could have been bums together. Glad you are feeling better and glad your routine is working for you! ❤

  7. So glad you’re feeling better Lucie – have a lovely weekend 🙂

  8. That’s such a great thing that you’ve been able to help one of your readers – that’s definitely a huge pride point for me in blogging as well. I love knowing that I help or inspire people to move forward in ED recovery. You should be so proud of yourself for helping her, and I’m sure many other silent readers too!
When I’m not feeling well, I’m all about the carbs. Cinnamon toast is my go-to!

  9. Wow you go girl, can you imagine how many other girls you are reaching, those who may be afraid to reach out, it really is a beautiful thing and I am so proud of you for being so brave and honest about your journey, I know how hard it can be to push publish sometimes after letting your heart out but seeing how its changing lives makes it all worth it! I am so touched! Whenever I feel outnof it I try and find activities I love doing or connecting with old friends, it kinda grounds me and puts me back into motion! Sending you lots of feel better wishes and love!! C

Who thought I would ever write again. Link in Bio. ‚'In essence, love is the consistent embodiment of care, compassion, kindness, and joy toward yourself, your partner, and each other as two interconnected and supported beings. If you encounter those feelings, you can't work around your own vulnerability.

But: there is one emotion that is stronger than fear, and that is forgiveness. For power is never simply a possession but an exercise; power is about how we understand ourselves. If we can forgive, we can let go. If we can let go, we can detach. If we can detach, we find happiness.' #blogger #heartstories #detachment #happiness
