Just a short note before we start, I need to clarify, that the story with my peeing behind the tree and my stolen bike whilst that, happened 17 years ago – when I was 18 and drunk on a night out. So my bike is still here and I am not peeing on public anymore! Just sayin’.
Don’t worry, I am not in christmas mood yet. But I had so much delivery this week, call me the spoiled brat of the week! It SO felt like christmas! How do I deserve all that? Ok, foodwise – I have different Foodie Penpal exchanges running, so that’s where all these wonderful packages come from. Means, the sender gets a good amount of Swiss goodies in return!
Recipe at the end of this post!
Sara and me have a looong story, when it comes to our package exchange. I sent mine to DC. It came back, because my man wrote a wrong address on it (note: do this yourself. Sorry Hunn.) THEN, she sent mine to Zurich. It went back, because she wrote the address wrong (ok, doing it yourself might not be better🙂 ) THEN the one I sent to DC never arrived at her place – lost in the dark. THEN – get this – she gave the package that she wanted to send to me to her roommate, who offered to drop it at the postoffice. The roommate forgot it in the back of her car for more than a week, and all the chocolate was melted and the package was back at Sara’s house (THIS is called a hilarious story. Seriously, I almost friggin’ DIED). Now my SECOND package is on the way with the hope that this time it doesn’t get lost in nowhere (ya know, I am pretty sure the custom officers just kept it and are licking that Swiss Chocolate off their fingers now) AND her package FINALLY arrived!! Woohoo!
More presents: Vitacost. wait, that’s a lie – I paid for it. Recommended by Laura, I ordered Growing Naturals Protein – Vanilla Packages and Chocolate. I love it! Even better with a little Pumpkin Pie Spice maybe??
Wait, I am lying again, that’s organic deodorant for the man! Gee!
What really turns myself into a spoiled brat is the return of Momma from her vacation. She spends almost all her vacation in the Czech Republic where her partner has a house and there is a huge sports outlet. She loves to go shopping for me there and clearly, I love that too.
The jars are homemade applesauce! Yumm! I feel so lucky, but to be honest, I am in need of a ton of workout clothes – not only because I use them daily, but with living in 2 different cities, I need to split the amount of gear up. #thirdworldproblems.
Finally, the balance comes from giving and taking, right? I’ve been a good friend and mad a present to my best friend this week. Like me, she struggles in winter with the winter funk, and unfortunately it seems like it’s going to be winter soon. We do have some beautiful golden fall days here, but it’s already a lot chillier and especially darker in the morning and evenings. So I created a winter survival package for her:
- Chocolate-Apple-Muffins (everything is better when you have a good treat on hand, right?)
- Nut Butters (DITO – how could you even survive winter without nut butter.)
- A list of my favorite tips on how to avoid depressing days or a funk, and if nothing helps, a really silly photo of the 2 of us.
- A list with survival activities she can do when feeling down
- A bucket list for the 2 of us with all the winter events we want to do together
- A Cheer Up CD with a booty shakin Playlist
- A Calm Down CD with a chill out Mix
- BOOKS! My favorite trilogy from Jennifer Donnelly – reading this makes you forget everything around you, plus a sweet book about how Hector found happiness.
I loved to arrange this package and she loved it too!
Now on to the food I have for you:
1 scoop of chocolate protein powder (I used Sunwarrior)
1 tbsp raw unsweetened cacao powder
1/3 cup of oats (NOT flour!)
1 tbsp oatbran
2 packets of stevia or sweetener of your choice
Mix all dry ingredients together.
Add in the eggwhites.
Add liquid of your choice if the batter is too thick!
Heat up a skillet medium heat and cook as pancakes.
Topping: Mix 2 tbsp sugarfree maple syrup with 1,5 tbsp almond butter and pour over pancakes.
I loved that the oats are whole, it gives them a bread-like consistency. Drown in the AB-Syrup – HEAVEN.
Now the following muffins don’t look so appealing. I baked them in Basel, where I don’t have my camera and lightbox, plus I was in a rush, cause I made them over lunch. I had no time to make a nice arrangement, but I can assure you, that they taste so so so good. I really may say so myself, they’re fresh (apple) sweet (chocolate&honey) and
moist doughy (eggs&coconut oil). Give them a try, seriously. Apples and Chocolate is a perfect combo.
Chocolate Apple Muffins:
2 scoops Chocolate Protein Powder (I used Growing Naturals)
4 tbsp raw unsweetened cacao powder
1 tsp baking powder
2 tbsp almond meal
1 1/2 grated apples (medium)
3 tbsp honey
2 tbsp coconut oil
Preheat oven to 200°C.
Mix the dry ingredient together.
Mix in the eggs.
Mix in the grated apples.
Mix in honey and coconut oil.
Spray 8 little muffin forms and pour batter into them.
Bake for 20-25 minutes – you can stick in a knife, if just a little batter stucks to it take them out, otherwise they’ll be too dry!
Ok, that was a looong post, kudos if you made it until here!
Did you ever experience a winter funk?
