WIAW#33 – What I ate on a weekend day

Ok, we all know by now what happens on a Wednesday. It’s WIAW on the blog and we all get to stalk each others food days!

Last week, I posted my eats and routine of a workday. So clearly, I am not working seven days a week and love to switch up my routine on the weekend. Which is different every weekend too, so here’s just an example:

00:00/01:00/02:00 AM: Coming home from dinner out, cinema, friends event, concert etc. – and collapsing into bed. Depending on how tired I am, I sleep in – talking about 9-10 hours (BLISS!!) and take a restday, or I get up around 7/8 am so I have time for a morning workout. Getting up later than usual makes me eat breakfast before my workout, which I don’t do during the week – definitely sits better in my stomach than at 5 am.

My current breakfast obsession: Sweet Eggy Oats. When they sit overnight, they almost turn into a oatmeal bake which is even more delicious.


A little later, I get my workout done. I love to take the chance to do Interval Cardio at the lake, but before I do that, I hit a strength workout in our meanwhile nicely equipped home gym. Workout time: Something like 9am – 11am.


Right after, fueling with my protein shake and some nuts or a little fruit.


Obviously while catching up on some blogs.

The rest of the day is easy with the man – grocery shopping, spending time at the lake, cycling, drinking tea and reading at Starbucks etc……

Groceries: Chicken, Sweet Potatoes, Cucumber, Blueberries, Eggs, Avocado, Limes, Radish, Codfish

….until it is time for another meal. I would call it lunch, but it happens around 2-3pm, so maybe more like a bigger snack.

I used to eat only twice on weekenddays, I had a huge brunch and a huge dinner – and I never felt good with it, my stomach just couldn’t handle it. So now, I break the big meals down to 4 smaller ones (on workdays I eat about 5 small meals) and this works a lot better.

Later in the afternoon – around 4-5pm – Sunday meal prep happens.

….along with cooking dinner! If we are staying in on the weekends you bet we turn on the grill. Actually, we even make BBQ’s in winter. I mean, as long as I can stay inside and prepare the veggies while Sandro is freezing his butt off outside at the grill, all is well, right? πŸ™‚

Dinner is served around 6:30 – 7pm.

I made this bowl just recently and I was so surprised how delicious it turned out! I was definitely sad when the last bite was gone.


A perfect end of a perfect weekend is – CHOCOLATE.

Sunday night is the laziest of all – savoring the last few hours of our weekend until I have to go back to Basel for work. We love to go for a short evening walk at the lake, and spending the evening on the couch with trash TV and passing out early.

I swear, he was more excited than he looks.

Here you have it – an example of a weekend day!

What is different on your weekends compared to a workday?

Do you go out for dinner a lot? I used to go out a lot, but since I discovered cooking a bit more, I love to eat in – eating out at friends or at a restaurant happens about once a week – but I enjoy it even more!!

  3. Any kind of bake is a great way to start the day, weekend or not :)! Delicious eats as per usual, Lucie…jealous that you have a man to BBQ for you, that too in the winter! My weekend meals tend to be less structured than weekdays, depending on what time I wake up! Some weekends I tend to go for less frequent, yet bigger meals whereas other weekends I do my usual “3 meal & 2 snack” approach. The kinds of foods I eat over the weekends also tend to be more indulgent as that’s when I’m more likely to eat out.

    • Definitely my thing on the weekend too – I adapt it all on my wake up time! If I only wake up around 9 or 10, then I am starving and need a bigger breakfast πŸ™‚

  4. I think my favorite meal out of this whole post (which it all sounds delicious) is the Lemonized codfish, sauteed mushrooms, baked sweet potato, radish, avocado bowl. I want to dive right in & lick the bowl clean. The only thing that would round out the dish to make it perfect would be some type of alcoholic beverage πŸ™‚

  5. Your weekend looks fabulous! My weekends are a lot different to the weekdays – this is when I will tend to cook things that take longer, make a special meal, or experiment with something new. I also spend a lot more time with Mr PoP and we try and spend some time outside cycling or walking, also visiting friends or family πŸ™‚

  6. Not going to lie… Definitely jealous over your 9-10 hours of sleep! I get about 6 on average, and my body refuses to sleep in, even on the weekends. Bugger. And I couldn’t agree with you more about every day having to have some chocolate in it. I can go one or two days MAX without it, but then I start to get a little crazy πŸ˜‰

    Oh yum! I’m addicted to egg white oats at the minute; I can’t imagine oats without them in now!!
    I probably go out for meals every couple of weeks..it always feels more of a treat that way.

  9. Sleeping in is such a weekend necessity! On weekends, I think I eat less frequently than I do during the week – usually 3 meals and 2 snacks on a weekday, and on weekends I’m more likely to do 3 big meals. We usually eat out once a week – that way we still get a date night, but we’re not blowing out budget πŸ˜‰ And a day without chocolate is a sad day indeed!

    So yummy! How do you make your sweet eggy oats? Did I miss the recipe? I usually go out to dinner once a week. My workday meals are alwayssss in a tupperware haha at home I eat on plates!

    • No you didn’t, I never posted a recipe, but it’s as easy as this – combine 1/3 cup of oats with 3 eggwhites and 1 cup water, add cinnamon, nutmeg, a pinch of salt and cook as a scramble in a skillet. Let sit in the fridge overnight and you have a superdelicious breakfast in the morning!

        Thanks! I usually make my oats with egg whites on the stove and eat it hot but I have never done it as a scramble in a skillet AND then leave in the fridge. Might just have to do that tonight for an easy morning tomorrow!
