Friday Favorites – Shake that Smoothie

28. June 2013 by swissfitchick

Hey friends!

Now that my first days back at work after my vacation are over, I am beyond excited, that it is weekend. Are you with me? Of course you are. Right?

Now I could whine about not being on vacation anymore or about the weather which is not summery at all around these parts. I could do that, but would that make me happier? Nope – it would only release negative energy and nobody is interested in such vibes, clearly.

So when I returned to my little home in Basel last Sunday, I was so pleased that my window was guarded by beautiful roses…..

…and the frontgarden turned into a beautiful little jungle while I was away.

IMG_4128At least the nature is in full summer tune!

Paired with this colorful joy, I almost stumbled over a huge parcel in front of my door that included this:

My Magic Bullet!! I am so thrilled. It even contains a juicer. So my smoothie obsession I picked up in the US continued this week, and besides my eggwhite omelett, I had a daily delicious and light powerfoodbomb for breakfast:

Spinach/Blueberry Smoothie with 1/2 scoop Perfect Fit Protein Powder – in a MASON JAR!! Love it.

Spinach/Ginger/Flaxseed/Beet/Blueberry Smoothie

On the side: my eggwhites.

IMG_0293The base for all of them is coconut water, flaxseed or chia seeds and ginger. Then I add what I have on hand – veggies, fruit (mostly berries) and a little stevia. If you want them a little sweeter and thicker, add a banana or dates! Though the seeds thicken up quite well if you let it set overnight in the fridge.

Until now, I made my smoothies with a hand blender, which was ok, but just a bit difficult (sputtering half-mashed content through the whole kitchen….if you know what I mean.) – so with my new Magic Machine it’s so much easier and I can not stop blending!!

Now on to some of my workouts: I usually try to get in 2-3 sprintsessions per week, and sometimes I just DON’T feel it. This case appeared on Tuesday, despite the lovely weather outside. So I made a little shoutout on Instagram to get some motivation and I got it – thank you Sara!

So I grabbed my runners and went – and YES, I felt GREAT afterwards!!

I have to say that I like these shorter, sweatier and more intense sessions much more than the endless hours of Cardio I used to do in the past. I still do my 60-75 min steady runs once in a while, but then it is pure enjoyment and I am not forcing myself into a certain mileage. Sprints are intense and fun – and steady runs are all about clearing my mind, enjoying the nature and the fresh air and losen up. By the way – I NEVER ever did a long run on a treadmill. These things freak me out – I did use them on vacation for sprints, but I feel like a tiny depression attacks me when I think about running on one more than 20 minutes. I just can’t stand the boredom.

Remember these babies from Tuesday’s post?

They are gone. All of them. Okay, I didn’t whip up a huge pile and I saved on for each day, but I like to promote them again – They are SO GOOD. You need to keep them in the fridge, because otherwise they soften up too much. It’s such a yummy and healthy treat and serves so well as a dessert or a snack.

Paired with a cup of my new purchases from David’s Tea……bliss.

IMG_4142So here you have it. Little things are enough to get in a good mood. And now that the weekend is around the corner, it gets even better!

Happy Weekend to all of you!!

What little things make YOU happy?Β

What do you love more? Cardio or Strength? I am hooked with my heavy weight routines because I love to see how stronger I get each day. Though I also LOVE the alternation with sweating in a Cardio session.

If you are a runner: Treadmill or Outdoor? OUTDOOR.

Happy weekend Lucie! I can’t believe this is your first blender! You are going to love your smoothies even more now πŸ˜‰

  2. Those flowers are absolutely gorgeous – little things like that can definitely add so much happiness to life. I actually just started a little flower garden of my own on my balcony, and I can’t help but smile every time I look outside and see the beautiful colors.

    Happy Friday, love!

    • That’s so sweet about your flower garden!! I love that, especially since I definitely don’t have the greenest thumb, so it’s even more thrilling when the flowers stay alive πŸ™‚

  3. You know I love weight training with all my heart πŸ˜‰

Off to check out Tuesday’s recipe!

Beautiful roses and I’m sure they smell wonderful! I need to check out the recipe to your snack bites….they look yummy. Have fun with that magic bullet. My blender bit the dust and I so had to have a smoothie this morning that I used my food processor. Got to get a new blender ASAP!

  6. Stop + smell the roses!! LOVE IT! I love the magic bullet + used to have one but lost it somehow! That baby makes chops onions and makes really good salsa and protein pancakes BTW πŸ˜‰ Love all the new recipes you are coming up with!! Sending you lots of LOVE! Love + Shine Courtstar

  7. Ah I totally feel you about running on a treadmill! I used to be able to run over an hour regularly (my max was 16 km) and wouldn’t bat an eyelid- now just the thought of even half an hour makes me think twice! I’m looking forward to hitting the streets of London and making the most of outdoor running while I’m there πŸ™‚

  8. Those coco-roons look so awesome and fudgey!! Love it!
I definitely prefer shorter runs too. Though I guess part of that is that right now I have a hard time running more than two miles πŸ˜‰ Definitely outdoor running though! I don’t think I could stand running in one place. I like to at least feel like I went somewhere!

Who thought I would ever write again. Link in Bio. β€š'In essence, love is the consistent embodiment of care, compassion, kindness, and joy toward yourself, your partner, and each other as two interconnected and supported beings. If you encounter those feelings, you can't work around your own vulnerability.

But: there is one emotion that is stronger than fear, and that is forgiveness. For power is never simply a possession but an exercise; power is about how we understand ourselves. If we can forgive, we can let go. If we can let go, we can detach. If we can detach, we find happiness.' #blogger #heartstories #detachment #happiness
