Tuesday Recipes – Burger is King

28. May 2013 by swissfitchick

I am a denier of Burger King and Mc Donald’s since years. No, not because of calories and fat, but I just can not stand the tase, not even the smell you get when stepping inside of the restaurants. I tried the hamburger when I was a kid, but never liked it. Though I was pretty obsessed by the Mc Flurrys Ice Creams and Apple Pies.

Sandro asked for burgers the other day and I was intrigued to create a homemade version where I know what’s in it and where I can choose the combo. I wanted to do a beanless one, since most of the healthy burger recipes include beans and I am not a huge fan of beans. I have to say, these turned out perfectly and Sandro approved them 100%.

I will add them to Kierston’s #RECIPEFRIDAY campaign!!

Ingredients for 6 Patties:

500g ground beef

2 carrots

2 heaped tbsp ground flaxseed

2 tbsp nutritional yeast

4 eggwhites

garlic powder

onion powder

I used this mix of parsley and garlic – I got it in Spain and I put it in almost everything, it’s so good!!

Cook up a small amount of water in a pan.

Chop the carrots and add them to the cooking water, cook until smooth. Set aside.

Mix the ground meat with all the spices, eggwhites, flaxseed and nutritional yeast with a fork. Mix and knead well until well combined and thickened.

Mash the carrots and add to the meatmix.

Form 6 patties.

Heat up a skillet (medium heat) covered with 1 tsp olive oil or cooking spray.

Cook the patties over medium heat for about 10 minutes all in all until well done on the inside – flip occasionally.

I served mine plain with a side salad.

Sandro enjoyed his (read: THREE of them) with mustard, ketchup and salad in a wholegrain bun. They had the perfect consistency on the inside and tasted really delicious. We had some leftover ones and you bet I had one as a snack the next day – they taste even better after sitting a few hours in the fridge!

IMG_0274Are you a frequent McDonald’s or Burger King visitor?

Cold leftovers, yay or nay? I admit, I absolutely love cold leftovers. Faves are leftover spaghetti roasted in eggs, or cold pizza. Hmmmmm.

  1. Here’s the re pie you were talking about yesterday. They sound even better than what you described yesterday. Cant wait to try this out for Joshua, since well my whole no beef thing right now lol. I can always live through him right? Haha

I’m all about leftovers, which is weird since while growing up, I wouldn’t dare touch something that was a day old. Oh how times change lol

  2. Those burgers look great Lucie, I love how you put carrot inside them! I am exactly the same with McDonalds, I ate last ate there about four years ago and the smell of the place made me feel ill. Then my insides genuinely felt like they were greasy.. I just hated it! That said, I will happily go out for burgers – veggie are my favourite!

Love this recipe! I’m always looking for a new burger recipe, especially in the summer. Thanks for including a link to mine too 🙂

  4. I never liked the burgers from McD’s either, but their fries and chicken nuggets? Omigosh – to die for. Then again, I think I just use those as an excuse to eat sweet ‘n sour sauce 😉 And while I don’t go on a regular basis, there are definitely times where the craving strikes and has to be satisfied. As for cole leftovers – love ’em! Honestly, I prefer cold food over hot food, and I have to agree that pizza and spaghetti are some of the best cold leftovers out there.

    Happy Tuesday, hun!

  5. These look fabulous! I love nooch in burgers. I’ve been putting it on everything lately.

Thanks for linking my bean burgers too. Have a great week!!!

  6. As a vegetarian, I obviously do not eat meat. But, I love the concept of this much healthier version. I especially LOVE that you added carrots! Sneaking in extra veggies is awesome :).

  7. Carrots in the burger…hmmm. Well at least I’ll eat my veggies now 🙂

  8. Wow these look SO good Lucie! Yum 🙂 Leftovers are a yes for me – hot or cold!

Who thought I would ever write again. Link in Bio. ‚'In essence, love is the consistent embodiment of care, compassion, kindness, and joy toward yourself, your partner, and each other as two interconnected and supported beings. If you encounter those feelings, you can't work around your own vulnerability.

But: there is one emotion that is stronger than fear, and that is forgiveness. For power is never simply a possession but an exercise; power is about how we understand ourselves. If we can forgive, we can let go. If we can let go, we can detach. If we can detach, we find happiness.' #blogger #heartstories #detachment #happiness
