Tuesday Recipes – Mom’s original chocolate cake & healthified version

Good morning!! As promised, I share today the recipe of Mom’s chocolate cake. It was my wish for every birthday because…..I have no words for it, it is just SO good.

Now watch out: This is the original recipe, which means it is NOT a healthyfied version. It contains sugar, butter and even alcohol!! 🙂 If you can not eat this or try to stay on a healthy track, I created a healthier version for you which you find right below this recipe.

Mom’s original Chocolate Cake

Here’s what you need.

Ingredients: 

150g butter

250g sugar

6 eggs

1 dash of salt

1/2 pack vanilla sugar

200g dark chocolate

water

250g grated almonds

FROSTING: 

375g powdered sugar

water

2 tbsp kirsch

4 tbsp chocolate powder (unsweetened)

How to prepare it: (I repeat the ingredient here, so you know in which order to do what)

150g butter
250g sugar
6 yolks

stir until fluffy

1 dash of salt
1/2 pack vanilla sugar

add and stir  

200g dark chocolate
3 tbsp water

put in a pan and melt on the stove. Let it cool down and add to the egg/butter mix .        

                   

add 250g grated almonds
whisk 6 eggwhites until stiff and add to the dough

Take a round baking form (dimension 24cm). spray with cooking spray or spread with a little butter or oil on a kitchen paper. Pour the dough into the form. 

Bake on the lowest level in the oven for 50-60 minutes by 180°C

FROSTING:                                  

Whisk all ingredients until well combined. With a spatula decorate the whole round of cake.

That’s it! WONDERFUL!!

So now, here’s the healthier version. I want to give a shoutout on this to Danielle and to the Tone it Up girls, since I was inspired by their creations.

Healthified Chocolate Chip Cake

Ingredients: 

1 Banana

4 medjool dates

2 tbsp almond butter

2 eggs

100g protein powder

50g unsweetened cocoa powder

1 tbsp cinnamon

1 tsp baking powder

1 handful chocolate chips

FROSTING: 

1 tbsp almond butter

1 tbsp stevia (powdered)

1 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder or chocolate protein powder

water

Preparation: 

Mix all the dry ingredients together.

Blend all the wet ingredients.

Combine the wet with the dry ingredients and blend well.

If the dough is too dry, add a splash of almond milk.

Stir in the chocolate chips.

Pour the batter in square baking form which is lined with a baking sheet. You can also use paper muffin forms and make mini chocolate cakes.

Bake on middle level by 180°C in the oven until a knife comes out clean when pierced (about 20 minutes).

Whisk all the frosting ingredients to a smooth mass and decorate the cake when cooled down.

    • they are a great replacement, you wouldn’t recognize that it isn’t plain sugar. It would actually even work with only the banana, just isn’t as sweet but still delicious!

    wow that cake looks delish! Especially the frosting!! Sadly i’m still not able to “control” myself and eat these kind of sweet treats in moderation, so I think i’m going to stick to the healthy version for now BUT i hope to be able to do the classis version very soon 🙂 Have a nice day!

    • I know that problem well enough. That’s why I baked it with my mom and just took a piece with me to have it later. If it would be in my kitchen it would be gone in one hit, which is sad. The mini cakes are a good version to stay in moderation, you could put a good bunch of it in the freezer and just warm one up if you feel like it! I do that a lot and it works!

Your Mom’s original chocolate cake sounds a lot like one that my mom makes… tonnes of sugar, butter, eggs, and chocolate 😀 It’s a nice treat to have every once in a while, but definitely not something that I’d be eating on a daily basis. I think I’d go for the real thing first though; when I eat cake, I want it to be CAKE. 🙂 Made with Swiss chocolate, I have no doubt that your mom’s recipe is anything short of amazing.     • Haha, yes, Mom’s cake IS cake. The real decadent one, but oh…….it is worth every single sugar or fat calorie 🙂 And yes, it’s surely MUCH better with Swiss chocolate!
